Everyone likes pandas. They are so cute and lazy… Once in China it is important to pay a visit to pandas in Chengdu, Sichuan. Visit Chengdu Panda Breeding Center and spend a half a day with those cute creatures! We came around 9 a.m. (when their breakfast was served and we were lucky enough to see them moving ?. They grabbed their portions of bamboo and were quite excited. We learned that they live up to 28-30 years in the Center and they live about 20 years when in wild.
What can you see while visiting pandas?
Pandas are quite spoiled – they do not touch yesterday’s bamboo, wait for a fresh portion! Some eat only branches, others prefer leaves… They can eat up to 25 kg bamboo per day. The Center has quite a big area, but it is worthy visiting on foot, enjoying nature. Avoid Chinese holidays as you would join a huge crowd of Chinese visitors. And try to come during their feeding hours to see them active. Baby pandas are very cute, but you will see them in summer mostly.
While in Center go and visit brown/red pandas that look very different from black-and-white ones.
The Center is also a UNESCO World heritage site, has a world wide recognition. I loved my half a day there. The place is easy to reach even by a half hour taxi ride from Chengdu as it is only 10 km away from a downtown Chengdu. The center is open 8.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. I have spent 2,5 hours there. Ticket price is 58 RMB per person.
You can find a Panda Post office in the center ando send a post card with a special stamp from there.
